Well good afternoon fine people!
You may know by now that I’m a big fan (HUGE) of the printed word, which includes zines as great portals of creativity. And like so much of my creative practice, when an idea for one wants to come into being, it wants to come into being.
Which is why, though there were approximately a zillion other things I could have been working on, a month or so ago, I found myself pouring my time and attention into a new little ditty that came into being as the Communication as a Sacred Act zine.
Born out of many discussions, observations and experiences, this publication was ready to answer the question of “is there a different way to do this?” when it came to how we live, work and exist in the online realm.
Though many people may tell you otherwise—either directly or through the omission of questioning if the way we’ve been told to do things just maybe isn’t “right” or the “only” way—the online space is not a preciously narrow experience that can only be dictated by the huge corporations that shape so much of it.
As I explore in the zine, however, moving out of the destructive aspects of how we are often told we must be online, has to start with us being aware of how we are operating when we engage in these spaces.
As such, Communication as a Sacred Act was created to support you in increasing that awareness, to move into a different way of being in the digital realm.
In this publication, I offer simple reframes and tips to support you in living into the magic of communication, moving from domination, extraction and exploitation of ourselves, others and the planet into the sacred exchange that IS possible—even through technologies built upon those destructive aims.
Centered around the concepts of connection being at the root of communication, sharing as an act of service and expansion in receiving, my aim is that this zine may be one resource to encourage mindfulness in how you operate in the digital space, so that you are able to enjoy the process of communication as a sacred act, ultimately enriching your life, work, relationships and impact upon this planet.
Sounds pretty heavy when we’re talking about TikTok, but think about it. Think about how much time and energy you spend engaging with online technologies. For many of us, it is a lot. So why not find ways to actually feel better about being in that space?
Life is too short to feel like shit whenever you have to answer an email, or post about an event you are hosting, or respond to a DM—especially when each of those activities has the potential to bring you into deeper connection, understanding and expression!
Learn more here about how Communication as a Sacred Act can help support your shift into feeling groovy instead.
If you have ways that support you in living into a positive relationship with the online realm, please feel free to share below! Let’s normalize finding paths that work FOR us when it comes to the digital space!
Thanks for being here! Happy summer!
