become a resident artist to make AND host offerings at good day studios!
Since Geneva has joined Marta and I in creating Good Day Studios, our community art studio/event space, we have expanded what it means to a be a resident artist with us!
Specifically, in addition to being a space for artists to work on their creations, we are now calling in folks who also desire a space to facilitate offerings to the community. This could be art shows, workshops, group healing sessions, pop ups, meetings, reading/writing/sewing circles—the possibilities are endless!
For $250/month (utilities included!), you get full 24/7 access to the space, including the back room to store your art supplies and in-progress work, and the common room to work in and to host offerings! Members of the creative cohort will work together to determine scheduling for events so that everyone is able to utilize the space for their creative pursuits and visions.
If you are a creative looking for a space to work and cultivate community, NOW is the time to join us as this month we are calling in the folks who will help us continue to build Good Day Studios as a creative community hub!
If you are interested in learning more about what being a resident artist at Good Day Studios includes, or want to check the space out, please reach out to Marta at hello@gooddayhumboldt.com within the next week! You can also check out the space during any of our open event hours, which you can learn more about below!
Let’s keep this vision going with all of our creative magic!

i’m so into this…
current recommendations (2 books & a show)
pictured above: i’m a sucker for great book covers—picked up big swiss by jen beagin at LAX on my way home from wisconsin and it DID NOT disappoint
Did you know I’m into art?! Making it, but also consuming it. Which is great, especially when there is such RAD SHIT out there to enjoy and support. There are fewer things more amazing, IMHO, than when you indulge in an art experience and come away feeling more inspired and alive.
Thus, here are three recommendations I’ve got should you be on my wavelength and/or have similar tastes and/or sense of humor to me (I can’t be held responsible if you try any of these and hate them because, after all, we are different people).
american spirits by anna dorn
I’ve already sung Anna’s praises with my obsession with the hilarious Perfume & Pain, but needed to make another plug for her latest novel, American Spirits! A quite different vibe from P&P, this book, centering around a pop star inspired by Lana Del Rey, is a page turner all about fame, obsession, art and navigating the covid years, with an ending that had me squealing with joy, throwing the book on the sand (because of course I finished it at the river) and declaring that Anna Dorn is a genius.
big swiss by jen beagin
As seen above, Big Swiss is a delicious, hilarious, fucking weird book all about a transcriptionist living in Hudson New York, who works for a pseudo sex therapist named Om. Especially for anyone who lives in a place where adults wear fleece cartoon pajama pants out in public (as I do (the living part, NOT the pants part)) and strangely crave the gross scenesteriness of “hip” places like upstate New York, I highly recommend.
widow’s bay
FUCKING WOW THIS SHOW IS AMAZING! And! I don’t even like horror films but the quirkiness and hilarity of this tv show got me through the scary parts (my friend Meredith recommended it after I once again declared my undying love of Twin Peaks).
Each episode follows a horror movie theme unveiling the secrets of this cursed New England island. All hell breaks loose when the mayor (Tom Loftis, not to be confused with Tom Loftus, the dude from the mpls music scene!) unwisely lures in tourists in an attempt to make Widow’s Bay “the next Martha’s Vineyard,” and it is BRILLIANT.
***** Also, five bucks to the first person (who I didn’t already mention this to) who can name the point in the series where I exclaimed “THIS IS THE BEST SHOW I’VE EVER SEEN!” (leave your guess below!) *****
Now go get some sun!!!!!
xo,
Holly

Tom Loftus!
